Hi Allied! It’s time for #TelemedicineTuesday!
Today I’m going to talk about taking Allied Telemedicine with you when you travel around New York, or when your child goes to college in New York.
The most important thing to remember about this is :
Your child must be located in New York at the time of the consult!
My younger daughter is getting ready to start her freshman year of college at Cornell, which has gotten me thinking a lot about all the college student Telemedicine consults I’ve had over the years. Some just needed a little guidance from a friendly pediatrician from home, and some did need time to tell them to seek medical care from student heath (usually), urgent care (less likely) or an emergency room (only once).
So, if your house looks like mine does right now (like Bed, Bath and Beyond has vomited in my living room), while you are including things to pack for your child in college, include information about Allied Telemedicine, and encourage them to make an appointment with me after-hours for questions/issues/concerns.
College students usually have strong/fast WiFi connections, so Telemedicine visits from dorms are usually easy.
What can be harder is if a family is on the road in New York and nerds to do a Telemedicine consult from a hotel. Not all hotels have strong enough bandwidth to support a Telemedicine consult. So, if you do find yourself in need of one, while at a hotel, here’s my advice: ask at the front desk where there fastest WiFi can be accessed before you start the consult. Otherwise, it can be frustrating if you don’t have a strong enough connection for the consult to work.
