As the pediatricians, allergists, and healthcare professionals at Allied Physicians Group look back on 2021, we can safely say this year has been a year of great highs and some lows. We have an effective COVID vaccine, and we can now vaccinate everyone over the age of 5 years old. We had a summer of lower transmission and a feeling of life returning to some normalcy.
However, we currently have a high rise in transmission of COVID, and a new variant with unknown transmission and severity. In the northeast, we are now indoors more and trying to protect the unvaccinated and the immunocompromised.
With the holiday season here, we are trying to be as safe as possible. For families gatherings, we recommend everyone eligible to get vaccinated. Consider at-home testing before visiting. While the test is not as accurate as PCR testing, some form of testing is better than none. If you’re hosting, remember airflow is very important. Turn up the heat and crack open some windows. Air filters rated for COVID filtering are a good idea as well. If you have a cough, congestion, or any symptoms, please stay home.
New Year’s Eve is a time to celebrate and hopefully wish for a better, healthier new year. While celebrating with children, especially unvaccinated children, parents are always looking for ideas to stay safe. I’ve included two articles with great ideas for a COVID safe NYE celebration.
